Activision Making Big Change to Call of Duty Battle Pass That Should Make Black Ops 7 Season 1 Progression Much Quicker

Treyarch Studios has announced significant changes to Call of Duty's Battle Pass system ahead of Black Ops 7 Season 1, addressing long-standing player complaints about the grind required to complete the rewards track.

The changes, set to launch with Season 1 on December 4, are designed to make Battle Pass progression feel more rewarding and less time-consuming for players. Activision has confirmed that the total time requirement to complete all 100 tiers of the Battle Pass will be reduced, with high-value content now unlocking sooner across the entire rewards track.

One of the major adjustments involves restructuring the Battle Pass pages themselves. Earlier pages will feature fewer tiers, allowing players to progress through them much more quickly and access high-value content faster. While later pages will still contain more tiers, Treyarch has emphasized that all tiers will now feature meaningful rewards to balance out the time investment required.

Perhaps the most significant addition is the introduction of Battle Pass Tokens, which can now be earned by completing Daily Challenges across multiple game modes. These challenges will be available in Multiplayer, Zombies, Warzone, and even Black Ops 7's Co-Op Campaign and Endgame modes. According to Treyarch, Battle Pass Tokens can be earned on certain days throughout the season by completing bonus Daily Challenges and can be used immediately upon unlocking.

The changes come after years of player complaints about sluggish progression and low XP gains in Call of Duty Battle Passes, which have been criticized as some of the most laborious in the gaming industry. Players have routinely reported needing dozens of hours of gameplay just to approach the final pages of rewards.

Treyarch has described the upcoming changes as player-focused improvements aimed at creating a more satisfying journey through the Battle Pass. The studio stated that players will earn rewards more quickly than they did in Black Ops 6, marking a significant shift in the franchise's approach to seasonal content.

Season 1, which Treyarch is billing as the biggest Black Ops Season yet, will feature over 119 rewards including 1,100 COD Points, 11 Operator Skins, and 26 Blueprints and Weapons. The season will also introduce seven new maps, multiple game modes, and new weapons including the fan-favorite Maddox RFB assault rifle returning from Black Ops 4.

The Battle Pass improvements are part of a broader effort to boost player engagement following mixed reception to Black Ops 7's launch, which has seen lower sales figures and player counts compared to previous entries in the franchise.
