It's been over three years since FIFA's name last appeared on a video game at launch. On 28th April, that changes.

FIFA Heroes has just received its first proper reveal trailer, and honestly, it is not what most people were expecting. The game is coming to mobile (plus PC) completely free-to-play on 28th April 2026, with PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch versions rolling out shortly after.

What Is FIFA Heroes?

FIFA Heroes is an arcade five-a-side football title developed by New York studio Enver and published by Solace. It was first officially announced back in October 2025, but this is the first time we have actually seen what the game looks like in action.

And it looks... wild.

The reveal trailer kicks off with a cartoony Diego Maradona threading a pass to a group of real-world footballers. Jack Grealish picks up the ball, takes a touch, and then gets stopped dead by Thor, the Norse god of thunder, who proceeds to trap Grealish and his entire team inside a dome of electricity. Standard football stuff, clearly.

From there, the trailer teases a chaotic roster that mixes present-day stars like Harry Kane, Lautaro Martínez, and Eduardo Camavinga with mythological figures including Zeus and Sun Wukong. Throw in a handful of animal-themed characters based on the FIFA World Cup 2026 mascots, Maple (Canada), Zayu (Mexico), and Clutch (United States), and you start to get a picture of just how far this strays from anything EA Sports ever put out.

FIFA Heros Rooster

Kyle Joyce, Director of Solace, put it plainly: "The last thing we wanted to create was another football simulation game. We wanted to imbue FIFA Heroes with fast-paced gameplay that will appeal to a whole new generation of players."

Fair enough.

Why This Actually Matters

FIFA and EA Sports parted ways back in October 2022, with licensing fee disputes reportedly at the heart of it. EA rebranded its football series to EA Sports FC and kept rolling, while FIFA announced it would start working with third-party studios to produce more varied football experiences. FIFA Heroes is the first game out of that new approach.

So yes, this is the first officially-licensed FIFA game in years. That in itself is significant, regardless of how you feel about Thor playing five-a-side.

The superpowers mechanic is clearly the headline feature. Teleport dribbles, meteor shots, magnetic tackles: these are not subtle additions. They are the entire point. FIFA Heroes is not trying to compete with EA Sports FC on its own turf. It is doing something different, targeting a younger, more casual audience who would rather watch a clip of Sun Wukong nutmegging Harry Kane than sit through a 90-minute simulation.

Motorola Partnership and What You Get

The trailer also teases a tie-up with Motorola. Select new Motorola devices, including the latest Razr model, will come with FIFA Heroes pre-installed. On top of that, Motorola announced earlier this month that players using those specific devices will have access to free in-game currency and exclusive playable characters. A decent incentive if you are already in the market for a new phone.

More FIFA Games on the Way

FIFA Heroes is not the only officially-licensed FIFA title coming up. Back in December, FIFA also announced a partnership with Netflix Games and Delphi Interactive on a separate game, with that one targeting a summer 2026 release to coincide with the World Cup. Details on that project are still thin, but the timing makes the intent pretty clear.

Meanwhile, EA Sports FC is not standing still either. EA Sports FC 26 launched last September to its best critical reception since FIFA 18, and a reveal for EA Sports FC 27 is likely coming this summer.

Football gaming, in short, is getting a lot more crowded. Whether FIFA Heroes finds its audience will come down to execution. The concept is there. April 28 is not far off.
