20 November 2025 11:00 AMRockstar Games has pushed back the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI by six months, moving the release date from May 26, 2026 to November 19, 2026. The announcement came during Take-Two Interactive's quarterly earnings report earlier this month.
"We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve," Rockstar said in its statement.
This marks the second major delay for GTA 6. The game was originally targeted for a 2025 release before being pushed to May 2026. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick emphasized the company's commitment to quality, noting they're "seeking to release the most extraordinary title anyone's ever seen in the history of entertainment".
The delay means fans will wait over 13 years between GTA releases—the longest gap in the series' history since Grand Theft Auto V launched in September 2013. Set in the fictional state of Leonida, GTA 6 follows criminal couple Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, with players able to control both characters.
Despite the setback, industry analysts predict the game will still dominate the 2026 holiday season, with many studios expected to avoid releasing competing titles near its launch window.
