Grand Theft Auto 6 won't arrive until November 19, 2026. That's ten months away. Ten months of waiting for Rockstar's next crime saga.

But there's another Carcer City calling your name first.

Modder DeadpoolMKD has announced that a free demo for Grand Theft Auto: Carcer City will launch on March 9, 2025. This total conversion mod for GTA: San Andreas resurrects the rust-belt nightmare from Rockstar's controversial 2003 stealth horror game Manhunt and transforms it into a sprawling open-world crime experience.

The story transports players to 2001. You're a former police officer dragged into Carcer City's criminal underworld. The city is collapsing around you. Businesses shuttering. Infrastructure failing. Gangs seizing control of entire neighbourhoods. Survival becomes the only currency that matters.

A Rust-Belt Reimagined

DeadpoolMKD claims this mod will feature the biggest and most detailed city ever seen in 3D-era GTA games. The world draws inspiration from Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and the decay that defined Manhunt's oppressive atmosphere.

Walk these streets and you'll see the struggle everywhere. Crumbling factories along the waterfront. Dangerous back alleys where hope goes to die. Neon-lit bars clinging to existence among the ruins. Every corner tells a story of economic collapse and urban decay.

Carcer City

The mod connects two beloved Rockstar universes. Manhunt's Carcer City exists roughly 120 miles from Liberty City in the GTA universe. References to the grim locale appeared throughout GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas, with pedestrians mentioning moves to Carcer City and flight boards showing arrivals from the troubled metropolis.

The Take-Two Problem

Here's the uncomfortable truth.

This project could vanish tomorrow. Take-Two Interactive has a history of aggressive action against fan projects. The modding team should have waited until launch day to announce this. Release the demo and trailer simultaneously. Let people download it before lawyers draft cease-and-desist letters. Once files spread across the internet, they're nearly impossible to eliminate completely.

Instead, they've given Take-Two's legal department weeks of advance notice. The clock is ticking.

The visuals won't blow anyone away. This is a San Andreas mod, after all. The graphics look dated by 2026 standards. Expect PS2-era textures and character models. But the PC gaming community has always shown willingness to overlook technical limitations when the gameplay and world-building deliver.

GTA 6

A 13-minute gameplay video recently surfaced, giving potential players a proper look at what DeadpoolMKD has created. The footage shows off the South Island of Carcer City in detail. You'll see how the mod handles mission structure, navigation, and combat within the reimagined setting.

San Andreas remains fertile ground for modders even 20 years after release. Projects like Multi Theft Auto add full online support. Others experiment with RTX Remix path tracing. The SA_DirectX 3.0 Beta Overhaul Mod brings modern graphical features like screen-space reflections and ambient occlusion. Some dedicated fans have even created VR implementations.

March 9 gives you something to play while waiting for Rockstar's November blockbuster. Download the demo. Explore Carcer City's nightmarish streets. Experience what happens when Manhunt's oppressive atmosphere collides with GTA's open-world freedom.

Just download it quickly once it releases. Before the lawyers wake up.
