Highguard Gets New Content Update This Week as Game Struggles to Hold Players

19 February 2026 23:00 PM GMTWildlight Entertainment has confirmed a new content update for Highguard is dropping later this week. The update brings a new base, a new raid tool, and fresh store offerings to the shooter. No exact release date has been given yet.
A second patch is also in the works. That one goes a step further, adding a brand-new game mode alongside weapon balance adjustments and other changes. Wildlight hasn't said when that second update arrives.
It's been a rough few weeks, to put it mildly.

Highguard had one of the more high-profile reveals in recent memory, taking the final slot at last year's Game Awards ceremony. That's prime real estate. The kind of reveal spot that gets people talking. And with a team of industry veterans behind it, people with serious pedigree from titles like Apex Legends and Call of Duty, expectations were understandably high when the game launched on 26 January across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
The reception, though? Largely underwhelming. Reviews haven't been kind, and the Steam player numbers tell their own story. Highguard peaked at over 97,000 concurrent players at launch and has since fallen to fewer than 1,000. That's a steep drop by any measure.
Whether these updates are enough to win back lapsed players remains a genuine question. A new base and raid tool are welcome additions, but a game shedding players at this rate typically needs more than new content to reverse the trend. The upcoming balance patch will be worth watching closely.
For now, Wildlight is at least moving. Whether it's moving fast enough is another matter entirely.
