The announcement came alongside news that the studio expects over 1 million players to flood the servers when early access finally goes live. That's the kind of hype most established franchises dream about.
Financial security like this is rare in game development. Studios typically operate on tight budgets, hoping their game sells enough copies to fund the next project. Hytale's flipped that script entirely.
