17 April 2026 13:00 PM BSTMonths of fan speculation are over. IO Interactive has officially confirmed that Lana Del Rey sings the main title theme for the upcoming James Bond game 007: First Light, and the track is now live on her YouTube channel.
The writing was on the wall for a while, to be fair. Late last year, Del Rey registered a new song titled "First Light" to the ASCAP database under her real name, Elizabeth Grant. Internet sleuths pieced it together pretty quickly.
Now we've heard it, and it delivers. The song is a proper Bond theme, moody and deliberate, with a playful wink toward the fact this is a video game. Some fans have also picked up on a subtle nod to Del Rey's own iconic track, Video Games. The line "Ah, you're ready? All the fates just watch you, dying just to know whether you'll play your life like a game" does a lot of work there.
Behind the score is David Arnold, a veteran of the franchise who handled the music for five Bond films across the Brosnan and Craig eras, from Tomorrow Never Dies through to Quantum of Solace.
Worth noting: Del Rey nearly had a Bond theme once before. She recorded a track called "24" back in 2005 for Spectre, the franchise's 24th film. It didn't make the cut. Sam Smith got the gig instead. Better late than never, then.
The timing of the announcement is a little bittersweet for IO. 007: First Light has had a rough few weeks on the leaks front. Most recently, the Indonesian ratings board accidentally made the game's ending publicly accessible, a significant slip for a title still six weeks from launch. IO has been tight-lipped about story details throughout development, so that one stings.
The game itself is shaping up to be a serious swing. Built by the team behind the Hitman World of Assassination trilogy, it stars Patrick Gibson (known from Dexter: Original Sin) as a young James Bond in an origin story. The cast also includes Gemma Chan, Lennie James, and Lenny Kravitz, who plays a villain named Bawma. Kravitz's character apparently strings Bond upside down and threatens to feed him to crocodiles. So, standard Bond fare.
007: First Light launches on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on 27 May 2026. A Nintendo Switch 2 version follows later in the summer.
