007 First Light Story Trailer Drops Ahead of May Release

1AM Gamer Team
13 February 2026 19:00 PMIO Interactive just dropped a proper story trailer for 007 First Light. And honestly? After six years of waiting, fans finally got something substantial to chew on.
The trailer premiered during yesterday's State of Play event, giving players their most detailed peek yet at what the studio's been cooking up. You've got story beats, character introductions, plus some genuine gameplay snippets thrown in for good measure.
What We Know About the Release
007 First Light launches May 27 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC. That's a proper multi-platform rollout, which makes sense given how long this thing's been in the oven.
Six years is a hell of a development cycle. But IO Interactive's track record with the recent Hitman trilogy suggests they know what they're doing when it comes to crafting intricate, choice-driven experiences. Whether that translates to a compelling Bond adventure remains to be seen.
The trailer itself leans heavy into the espionage atmosphere you'd expect. Shadowy organisations, double-crosses, exotic locations. All the 007 staples are present.
State of Play Had More Than Just Bond
Yesterday's showcase wasn't just about James Bond, mind you. PlayStation packed the event with several noteworthy announcements.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is coming to PS Plus Extra and Premium later this month, confirming a leak that'd been floating around. Not a bad addition if you've been holding off on buying it outright.
The event also featured updates on PS5 exclusive Saros, which has been quietly building buzz in certain corners of the internet. Then Santa Monica Studio came in hot at the end, announcing a remake of the original God of War trilogy is now in active development.
Oh, and they shadow dropped God of War: Sons of Sparta for PS5. Just casually released it right there. That's one way to end a presentation.

But back to Bond. The character-driven focus of this latest trailer suggests IO Interactive might be taking a more narrative-heavy approach than their Hitman games. Those titles were brilliant for player agency and emergent gameplay, but story often took a backseat to mechanics and experimentation.
Will 007 First Light strike a balance between the two? That's the real question. Bond deserves a game that feels cinematic but doesn't sacrifice the interactive elements that make gaming special in the first place.
The last truly great James Bond game was probably GoldenEye 007 or maybe Everything or Nothing, depending on who you ask. That's a long drought. IO Interactive has the pedigree to break it.
We'll find out in May whether they've pulled it off.
