Resident Evil Requiem Hits 7 Million Sales and Capcom Celebrated With Giant Cakes

28 April 2026 13:00 PM BSTSeven million copies. Capcom is celebrating, and honestly, who can blame them.

Resident Evil Requiem has now crossed the 7 million sales mark, up from the 6 million figure confirmed in mid-April. For a game that only launched last month, those numbers are genuinely staggering. To put it in perspective, Requiem shifted 5 million copies in its first five days alone, making it the fastest-selling entry in the entire franchise's history.
To mark the occasion, director Koshi Nakanishi shared the news on his Instagram with photos of the team gathered around two enormous Resident Evil Requiem-themed cakes. Both are worth describing.
The Leon cake goes full gothic: black icing, blueberries and raspberries, topped with a biscuit decoration of Leon holding a pistol. His trusty hatchet gets a nod too. The Grace Ashcroft cake takes the opposite approach, white frosting with a rather unsettling decoration of a zombie hand clawing its way out of the second tier. "Welcome to 7m Leon!" reads one. "Grace Congratulations on 7 million!" reads the other.
Good cakes. Great numbers.
What's Next for Requiem
Players aren't done with the game yet, either. A content update is due next month, and speculation is running hot that it'll bring back a version of The Mercenaries mode. That chatter got louder after a datamine leak surfaced new tense music pointing squarely in that direction.
Beyond that, a full story DLC is also in development, though Capcom has kept things quiet on a timeline for that one. It sounds further off than the Mercenaries update.
If you've somehow not played Resident Evil Requiem yet, the sales figures and the 9/10 review from IGN tell you everything you need to know. It's a genuinely brilliant survival horror game, and Capcom's best in years.
