A LEGO PlayStation 1 Set Could Be Coming This December

11 March 2026 13:00 PMIf you grew up with a grey PlayStation disc tray whirring away on your bedroom floor, this one's for you. A fresh leak suggests LEGO is building out a set based on the original 1995 PlayStation console, and honestly? It's about time.

The leak comes from Instagram user lego_minecraft_goat, a source with a solid track record for getting these things right before LEGO makes anything official. According to the post, the set goes by the internal codename "Codename P" or "Play" and carries the product number 72306. It will feature 1,911 pieces, include at least the console and a controller, and is reportedly set to launch in December 2026 at $159.99.
Worth stressing: nothing is confirmed. LEGO and Sony haven't said a word. Take it as a very promising rumour for now.
What we know so far
The set is said to be based on the original, larger PlayStation model from the mid-1990s, not the slimmer variant released later. The phrase "at least" in the leak when describing what's included is doing a lot of work there. Previous LEGO gaming sets have always shipped with extras beyond the obvious: the NES came with a Super Mario Bros. cartridge and a mini CRT, the Atari 2600 brought game cartridges and three dioramas, and the Game Boy packed in two cartridges plus interchangeable screen pieces. At 1,911 pieces, it sits noticeably smaller than the 2,646-piece NES set, which could be down to the absence of a TV component.
Price-wise, $159.99 is actually on the cheaper end for LEGO's collector gaming sets given the piece count, so that checks out.
LEGO's gaming collection keeps growing
LEGO has been quietly building one of the best retro gaming collections on shelves. The Nintendo Entertainment System dropped back in August 2020, the Atari 2600 followed in 2022, and the Pac-Man Arcade arrived shortly after. More recently, a LEGO Game Boy joined the lineup. Nintendo now has two LEGO consoles to its name. PlayStation has been the obvious gap.
If things go in release order, a LEGO SNES would logically come before a PS1, though there's been no leak or official word suggesting that's in the pipeline. For now, the PS1 appears to be next in line for Sony's first brick-built console moment.
The same leaker also mentioned a 72051 Mario Arcade Machine is planned for August with 1,367 pieces at $169.99. So it's shaping up to be quite a year for LEGO gaming fans.
Fan demand has been there for years
This isn't coming out of nowhere. A LEGO Ideas submission featuring a PS2 build received enough community support to be officially considered by LEGO over a year ago , and there are multiple PS1 fan builds on the Ideas platform that have racked up thousands of supporters. The community appetite has been obvious for a while.
Should the PS1 set land and perform well, it opens the door for future LEGO sets based on Sony first-party IP, given the breadth of PlayStation's catalogue. A LEGO Astro Bot, anyone?
December feels a long way off, but if this leak holds up, it could be one of the more exciting LEGO releases of the year for collectors and PlayStation fans alike.
